Our Facilities

The NCBES provides state of the art research facilities, expertise, and an intellectual climate that fosters, encourages and supports interdisciplinary research activities in Biomedical Engineering Science. The Centre's research facilities include microscopy, spectrometry, biomechanics and supercomputing suites.

Microscopy facilities provide some of the highest-level research equipment available and include Confocal Microscopes, a Scanning Electron Microscope with EDX, a Transmission Electron Microscope and a Scanning Probe / Atomic Force Microscope.

The Biomechanics range of equipment includes Axial / Torsion Servo hydraulic Testing System, Mechanical Thermal Analyser, Fatigue and Impact tester and Rapid Prototyping System.

The Centre has fully equipped cell culture suites in addition to molecular biology and functional genomics suites. Uniquely, the NCBES incorporates the National Gene Vector Laboratory which facilitates the manufacture of clinical grade gene and cell products.
